Hi everyone,
I'm interested in getting a Midsize Omega Seamaster with Blue wave dial (Bond watch). I've found two variations : the older 2551.80 and the more recent 2222.80 which is obviously more expensive (and the coaxial movement). Is it a good idea to buy the cheaper 2551.80? I'm asking because on some forums, I've read that the 2551.80's movement needs servicing more often and that I'd better directly buy a 2222.80 which will need less servicing. Thanks for your advice.

2551.80 and 2222.80 is 36mm auto.
2531,80 and 2220.80 is 41mm auto

2551.80 needing to be serviced more than 2222.80 is bunk, and mostly came from the claim that the coaxial escapement needs to be serviced less. But when you service a watch, you service the whole movement, not just the escapement.

Also, take into consideration that the 2500 movement in the 2222.80 went through many painful iterations (2500a to 2500d) before Omega was satisfied with it's reliability. Who knows which movement you'll get with your coaxial SMP?

Finally, servicing the 1120 movement (an age-long reliable workhorse) will be cheaper and easily done outside of Omega than the coaxial 2500 movement.

There are other reasons that you may choose the 2222.80 over the 2551.80, like for example styling. But from the perspective of lower service costs, you're far, far better off with the older watch.
